Add-ons are optional, priced upgrades a couple can add to their package — a photo
booth, an extra hour, uplighting, a second speaker. You define the catalog once; each
couple picks what they want on their event. The selected total simply rolls into the
[amount they already owe](/payments) and is paid the same way as everything else. No
card processor is involved — GigBook never sits between you and your money.

## Build your catalog

Go to **Settings → Add-ons** and add each upgrade with a **name**, an optional
**description**, and a **price**. You can:

- **Deactivate** an add-on to stop offering it — couples can no longer select it, but
  anyone who already added it keeps it (their price is locked in).
- **Delete** an add-on entirely. Couples who already selected it keep the item on their
  total, because the name and price are snapshotted at selection time.

## How couples select add-ons

Every event's portal gets an optional **"Add-Ons (Optional)"** checklist item that opens
the couple's Add-ons page. There they tick the upgrades they want, set a quantity, and
see a running subtotal, then hit **Confirm selections**.

Because prices are **snapshotted when they confirm**, editing a catalog price later never
silently changes a total someone already agreed to.

## How add-ons affect the amount due

A confirmed add-on is money owed, so it's added on top of the event's quoted total:

> **Amount due = quoted total + selected add-ons − payments received**

This shows up on the [Payments page](/payments) as an "add-ons +$X" line under the quoted
total, and it flows into the couple's **Amount due** panel. Adding an add-on re-opens the
**Make a Payment** checklist item until the new total is paid in full — everything stays
consistent with what's actually owed.

Add-ons even work before you've set a quoted total: if a couple selects a $450 photo
booth on an event with no quote yet, their amount due shows $450.

## The checklist item is always optional

The **"Add-Ons (Optional)"** item never blocks a couple's progress. It has no due date,
and it completes the moment they confirm — **even if they select nothing**. It's there to
